EXECUTIVE SECRETARY NUC PAYS ONE DAY OFFICIAL VISIT TO BOSU.

…Commends Gov. Zulum and BOSU Management

The Executive Secretary National Universities Commission (NUC) Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed has commended the Borno State Government for establishing a world class state university.

The Executive Secretary who was on a one-day official visit to the Borno State University also showered encomium on the Vice Chancellor, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe and his principal officers for ensuring take of the University on a solid foundation and within record period of six months of their appointment.

Prof. Rasheed who also went round some facilities in the Borno State University expresses optimism that in the not too distance future, the University will catch up with first generation Universities in the country.

Facilities inspected include the Faculty of Science and Education where he joined a Faculty Board Meeting, faculty of Sciences where furniture supplied by TETFUND are being installed as well as two mega male and female hostels constructed by the Borno State Government.

Prof. Rasheed also inspected the Borno State University Teaching Hospital being constructed by the Borno State Government and the College of Health Sciences being constructed through TETFUND Intervention.

The Executive Secretary commends Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his passion and keen interest in the development of education in Borno State and the love for his people inspite of all odd and assures of NUC’s cooperation and support adding that Borno is fast regaining its reputation as centre of learning in West Africa, despite the negative news of insurgency.

The Executive Secretary further assures that the National Universities Commission is willing to see that BOSU dream of starting medical and health programs are actualised and advised that all necessary preparations are done in earnest including recruitment and training of qualified staff.
He expressed optimism that, in the no distance future, BOSU will be one of the five best Universities in the country.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the Borno State University, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe briefed the Executive Secretary on the establishment of the University in 2016, their appointment in March, 2019 and commencement of academic activities in October, 2019 and attributed that feat to the support and advises given to them by the commission and other relevant agencies.
He said from a humble beginning with about 647 students, BOSU has strived against all odd to becoming one of the fastest growing University in the country with a current population of about 5000 students. The University has continually work according to the NUC guideline, adhering strictly to the advises, suggestions and obeying the rules of NUC, which made it to be favoured and applauded by the Council as having one of the most committed management team in the country.

BOSU has equally established a Centre for Quranic and Ajimi Studies with assistances from Prof. Ibrahim Muhammed of the Arabic Village Ngala, and other experts from Bayero University Kano (BUK). Tremendous supports were also received from NITDA, NCC, financial institutions, Minister of Communication and other organization too many to mention.

Prof. Sandabe said to play a leading role in the capacity development of the Borno people and in proffering solution to the post-insurgency dilemma, BOSU will soon commence programs in the soon to be established Medical College, and College of Health Sciences to carter for the health needs of Borno state, its environ and the country at large.

To achieved this, a MoU has been signed with the Borno State Hospital Management Board, University of Maiduguri, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and other great institutions within and outside the country.

He said, there are plans to build the Faculty of Engineering with a modern state of the art engineering workshop, a Faculty of Law and to open the already built and equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Centre aimed at training students to be self-reliant after graduating.

He added that NUC is willing to see that BOSU dream of starting medical and health programs is actualized this year. He advised for all necessary preparation to be completed and quality staff be employed and train accordingly. He expressed optimism that BOSU will be one of the best five state university in the country very soon.
